Thank You

Parents and Doodlebugs-

I cannot believe it is the last day of Kindergarten! It has been such an amazing year, and I couldn't imagine a better last group of "Doodlebugs." In just 9 days I will become Mrs. White, and look forward to new adventures next year. Thank you so much for providing our classroom with items we needed, and for volunteering your time and helping with field trips and parties. (I could not have done it without you!) Thank you for another amazing year at Bolin. Have a wonderful and safe summer-I look forward to seeing these First Graders in August!

A few pictures from Field Day yesterday...

I just love the excitement on their faces after winning their 4th and final round of Tug-of-War! (We were the kindergarten champs!) :)

Visit to Mr. Bolin's Farm

We had so much fun yesterday at Mr. Bolin's farm. He was so happy we came to see him!

Yesterday morning, we had another surprise. Kenzie's sister, Kaedyn, came in and read to the doodlebugs. Kaedyn was in the FIRST group of doodlebugs. :)

The Month of May

We have had a great start to May! Just this past week, we did an "author study" on Eric Carle and read several of his books including "The Mixed-Up Chameleon," "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," and "The Very Quiet Cricket." On Thursday, Our principal Mrs. Joyce came in and read "The Grouchy Ladybug," and our Watch Dog dad Mr. Baker helped us with our ladybug stories, and read "The Very Busy Spider." Friday we read "The Very Hungry Caterpillar," and made the caterpillar with our 2nd grade book buddies. Look tomorrow for pictures of our Eric Carle Crafts.

We wrote in our Writing Journals about our favorite Eric Carle book we read and why...

Dallas Arboretum

Yesterday, the Doodlebugs went to the Dallas Arboretum and got to look at all the beautiful flowers! Thank you so much to all the parents volunteers that came with us, and toughed out the rain-we appreciate all of your help. :) Even though the weather got much cooler, and the rain was on and off, the doodlebugs still had a lot of fun! Here are a few pictures from yesterday...

Field Trips

Doodlebug Parents-

Tomorrow we will be going to the Dallas Arboretum. Students will need to wear their purple class t-shirt and tennis shoes. Students will also need to pack a sack lunch with disposable items, including a bottle of water. (Please make sure everything is labeled.)

I know the weather does not look good for tomorrow, but as of right now, we are still planning on going. Since it will be cold, please make sure to bring a jacket. :)

On Wednesday, we will be going to Celebration Park and the Lowery Center to watch a play. Again, students will need to wear their class t-shirt, and tennis shoes. In addition to their disposable sack lunch/water bottle, students will ALSO need to pack a separate snack and water bottle for the park since we will be eating lunch later than normal.

Please check your student's purple folder today for the field trip and chaperone notes. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Weekly Happenings

Last week, the Doodlebugs planted grass with our Watch Dog Dad Mr. Hollingsworth. Look how much it has already grown....

Planting last week...

Look at the roots...the grass grew very quickly!

Don't forget, tomorrow is the last day to donate to "Pennies for Patients". (All coins are accepted, along with cash and checks.) Our school is almost to our goal of $4,000! Thank you for all of your support. Have a great week :)

Pennies for Patients

Doodlebug Parents-

Yesterday, April 8th, we started our Pasta for Patients drive. For the past few years, this has been called Pennies for Pasta, but we have changed it back to the original name. All proceeds of the change drive will go to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society (LLS). Every penny helps a family in need and it helps research better treatment options!  FYI: We accept cash, change, and checks (made out to LLS), and it doesn’t just have to be pennies .

The homeroom who collects the most money will receive a pasta lunch from the Olive Garden! :)

Important Details:

Dates: Monday, April 8th-Wednesday, April 17th

**Money collected by homeroom!

Thank you so much for raising money for a GREAT cause!

April Fun

Thank you to Mr. Bhatt (Anuj's dad) who was our Watch Dog dad last week.

We have been learning about plants the past few weeks. Below is a few examples of our "I am a flower" project. We explained what we knew about plants using "I am, I have, I can and I need."

UPScheck

The doodlebugs have been practicing solving word problems in math. We have started doing addition using the UPScheck model. This is something you can work on with your child at home to help reinforce math problem solving skills.

We have Bloomed

This week, we read the book Leo the Late Bloomer  and made text to self connections. We talked about how when we started kindergarten we had not yet fully bloomed, and now we are starting to bloom a little bit more each day. We have learned many new skills this year! Here is a peak at some of our writing journals...

We have had a great start to our first week back after Spring Break!

Spring Break

Thank you to everyone who came to Open House-it was a very successful night! The doodlebugs were so excited to show how hard they have been working this year. They loved learning about the different Texas symbols, and were very proud to share how much they knew!

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Spring Break! Can't wait to see the Doodlebugs back on March, 18th! :)

Open House Reminder

Parents,

Just a reminder that this Thursday, March 7th, is Bolin's Open House. It is from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m.. This is a fun time for students to show you their work and their classroom. You will also want to check out the silent auction that will be taking place in the gym that night from 5:30-7:30. There are a lot of great things to bid on! Hope everyone is having a great week!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Today we had fun celebrating Dr. Seuss's birthday! (His actual birthday is tomorrow, March 2nd.) We did a fun rhyming activity, a word scramble, and even watched Justin Beiber read "The Cat in the Hat" online! We also wrote about what we would do on a cold, rainy day. For more fun, visit http://www.seussville.com !

This afternoon, we went to the science lab! We have been discussing the importance of rocks/soil this week, and got to open our very own "Geodes" today. We observed the rocks, and discussed different characteristics. We also predicted what was going to happen once we cracked open the Geodes.

We discussed what important science safety rules we had to follow while in the science lab.

We broke open the Geodes with a hammer.

We were so surprised once we look inside the Geodes!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Mighty Molar Man

Mighty Molar Man came to visit today, and talked to us about ways to keep our teeth clean. We had so much fun!
