Brain Break

Sometimes we need a minute to get our wiggles out. The Doodlebugs doing a "brain break"...

Fantastic Friday

The Doodlebugs had SO much fun taste testing their green, red, and yellow apples with their 2nd grade book buddies this morning. After we taste tested each apple, we had to pick which one was our favorite and graph it! Most of our friends liked the green apples the best.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Thank you again for donating apples to the doodlebug classroom this week. We had so much fun sorting/comparing/graphing and mostly EATING :) the apples.

Questions to ask while reading

Below are 2 posters of questions we ask while reading/after reading at school. These questions could also be used at home while you are reading with your child/they are reading to you to make sure they are comprehending what is being read. :)

Thank you,

Miss Dudik

P.S. We have been working so hard in Daily 5 this week (all 5 rotations have been introduced)! Stay tuned for more pictures of what each component looks like. :)

Flag Ceremony Celebration

Here are a few pictures from the flag ceremony this morning! It was unexpectedly chilly outside this morning-so parents please remember to send a light jacket with your child just incase they may need it. Thank you :) Hope everyone is having a wonderful week.

Doodlebugs Mini-Lesson

Yesterday we took a "picture walk" through the book "I Am." Today, we revealed the words, and were able to read it all together! We are practicing the sight words: I, am, this week, and looking for them while we are reading.

Click the video below to watch the doodlebugs read the book, "I Am"...

Fabulous Friday

We had another amazing week in the doodlebug classroom! We practiced our "stamina" during daily 5, and learned about "subitizing" in math. On Friday, the doodlebugs had so much fun visiting with their second grade book buddies the "Bookworms" from Mrs. Bohls' room.

Parents: Please make sure you return the Baby Picture form this Monday if you have not already done so. We will be displaying these next week in the hallway, and at Curriculum Night!. :) I hope you plan to attend our Curriculum night, Tuesday, September 11th. Our first session is from 6:00 to 7:15, and our second session is from 7:30 to 8:30. Tuesday night will also be our very first PTA meeting from 7:00 to 7:30. I look forward to seeing you all there. Have a wonderful weekend!

Second Week of School

Parents,

I cannot believe we are already into our second week of school! Please make sure you check your child's purple folder daily. We will have a newsletter that will be sent home at the beginning of each week. (It is on our class color, purple paper, and there is also a copy of this newsletter on our Kindergarten website.) Their "homework" (with parent help), is to bring back the "Baby Picture" form filled out, and include a picture from when they were a baby. (We will be displaying these in the hallway next week!) Also, if you have not turned in money for Scholastic, please make sure you do so this week. :) Thank you!

Last week we practiced our stamina during Daily 5 for "Read to Self." We made it all the way to 8 minutes! Today, we were introduced to "Read to Someone." Partner reading is a fun way to practice reading strategies, improve fluency, and check for understanding. We practiced our stamina for "Read to Self," and modeled what it should look like, sound like, and feel like. Our "EEKK" poem was a helpful reminder.

I look forward to another fabulous week in Kindergarten!

Thank you,

Miss Dudik
