Daily 5

Today we talked about Daily 5! Daily 5 consists of literacy centers that teach independence and give children the skills needed to be successful in both reading and writing. Daily 5 consists of 5 different centers that are introduced individually. When introduced to each task, the children discuss what that center looks like, sounds like, and feels like to engage in them independently. Then, the children work on building their stamina until they are able to independently work on the task.  (I am sure your child will be very excited to tell you how we practiced our stamina today!) Today we introduced Read to Self. After all the centers have been introduced, I am then able to work with small groups while the students are engaged in their center.

Here are the "doodlebugs" practicing their stamina...

Missing School Supplies

Supplies:

I know that some of you are still bringing in school supplies. We still need a few more packs of markers, crayons, and 4 of the Primary Journal/Mead story tablets. I noticed they had a bunch at Walmart and Target, but they were not in the school supply section. They are located in the office supply section along with the crayons and markers. Please let me know if you have any questions. I know that the supply list can be a bit confusing.

Below I have posted a picture of the journal. Please make sure it is the Primary Writing Stage, and there is a blank part at the top for the students to draw a picture, and the lined writing strips at the bottom.

Thank you!

First Week of School

We have had a great first 3 days of school.  We learned so much this week!  On Monday we read Pete the Cat:Rocking My School Shoes , and then Pete sent us on a school tour trying to find him.  We never found Pete, but he did leave us a coloring sheet!  Like Pete says, " It's all cool!"
On Tuesday we talked about the 3 different ways we can read a book! We can read the pictures, read the words, or retell/summarize the story.

Today we read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, and talked about the sequencing in the alphabet.

We have had such a busy week!  I look forward to another fabulous day in Kindergarten tomorrow!

Love,
