Winter Party

We had so much fun today at our winter party. Here are just a few pictures from our stations, and from the "photo booth." Thank you to all of my parents who helped to make this party a success.

Also, thank you for all of my gifts. You sure do know how to make a teacher feel loved! I feel so fortunate to have such an amazing group of students and parents this year.

Singing "hot chocolate" at our sing a long this morning.

Hope everyone has a safe fun holiday. See you all in 2013! :)

Polar Express Day

We loved wearing our pajamas today for Polar Express. We watched the movie this morning and discussed different parts of the story, and how it compared to the book. Later, we sequenced the events. We also received a special gift from Santa...only those who believe hear the bell. :)

We were so excited to get Polar Express tickets to "board the train." :) Mrs. Lutrick
our conductor, punched them for us this morning.

The bell we got from Santa's sleigh. It only rings for those who believe.

"Choo Choo..."

We sequenced the story.

The orchestra performed a few holiday songs for us.

Looking forward to our Winter party tomorrow. Hope everyone has a fun and safe break! Can't wait to see the Doodlebugs next year. :) Happy Holidays!

Reindeer Day

Today was a very exciting day in Kindergarten. We celebrated "Reindeer Day." First we watched an online read aloud of the story Imogene's Antlers,  and then we made our very own antlers. We also wrote about what we would do if we had real antlers of our own. Below are some of our writing samples...

A few reminders:

Tomorrow we will be watching the Polar Express throughout the day. Students may wear their warmest pajamas/slippers/robes. (Please no pillows or blankets.) Also, since we have P.E. tomorrow, please make sure they bring tennis shoes in their backpack if they chose to wear slippers.

If you haven't already, please don't forget to send a wrapped children's book (under $5). (This was due on Monday, but we won't be having our book exchange until Friday.) It would be best if the books are "gender neutral" since we won't know whether the book will be going to a boy or girl. Thank you so much!

We had so much fun for "Grinch Day" today. Here are a few samples of some things we did today in honor of "The Grinch"...

"To make the Grinch grin I would..."

We described the Grinch at the beginning of the book...

...and at the end of the book.

We look forward to celebrating "Reindeer Day" tomorrow! Check back tomorrow for more updates and a couple of reminders. Hope everyone is having a great week.

Science on the Move

I apologize for posting these pictures so late, but a few weeks ago a few 6th graders came in, and taught a Science lesson to us about energy. We had so much fun! Our Watch Dog Mr. Baker had a chance to participate too!

Stay tuned for more about this upcoming week- I can't believe the Winter Break is just around the corner.

Christmas Tradition Homework due Friday

Dear Parents,

I cannot believe it is already December! This year has flown by.

We have been talking about family traditions at school, and will be starting "Holidays around the World" rotations next week.  Please help your student complete the Christmas Tradition page in their purple folders. Be sure to include a picture at the top and help your child write a description of your family tradition.

Please return your project THIS Friday, December 7th.  Students will each take a turn sharing their project with the class.  These will be displayed in the hallway next week!
Have Fun!

Making Connections while Reading

Today we talked about how we can make connections to books while reading, and how this will help us to better understand the story. (There are 3 different types of connections we can make. ) The first type of connection we talked about was a "text to self" connection. A text to self connection is when you connect the story to your own life. Before writer's workshop today we read Plaidypus Lost. After reading, we sequenced the story, and made text to self connections about a time we had lost something.

Below are a sample of some connections we made...

(losing a pencil/losing their purple folder)

(losing a necklace/losing a shirt)

Reading Strategy: Turtle Talk

Here is another reading strategy we introduced today that you can practice with your child at home. (These are great strategies to incorporate while reading the books in their book bags.)

Our Thanksgiving Feast

The "Doodlebugs" had so much fun yesterday at their Thanksgiving Feast. A big thank you goes out to all of the parents that provided food, and those who were able to attend. (This would not have been possible without you!) Below are two videos of the kindergarteners singing the "5 Fat Turkeys" song, and the"Thank You" song. (They did a great job!) :)

Hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving, and that you enjoy the break with your families. I look forward to seeing the doodlebugs back on the 26th.

Thank you,

Parents,

Our Thanksgiving Feast will be held THIS Thursday, November 15th at 1:30 in the cafeteria. (We will start setting up for the feast around 1:00.) Our room parents have created a sign up sheet online with items needed for the feast. There are still several items we need.

The Dallas Zoo

We had so much fun at the Zoo today! Thank you to all of our chaperones that joined us! (It would not have been possible without you.) The weather was beautiful, and it was the perfect day to go.

We got a little bit tired on the drive home... :)

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!
